Typical Installation

Write Block on Slave

Install Instructions

  • Drives connected to CoreSHIELD™ must be set as master or single.
    • –Western Digital hard drives are configured as single when no jumpers are installed or when jumpers are pinned in the neutral position.
  • Connecting CoreSHIELD™ to a hard drive creates a "protected assembly".
  • The protected assembly may be set as a master or slave on the IDE bus by setting the master / slave jumper on the CoreSHIELD™ device.
  • Connect the “Y” power cable to an unused Molex® connector from the computer.
  • Connect power to the hard drive and to CoreSHIELD™.
  • Connect the IDE ribbon cable from motherboard to the 40 pin IDE connector on the front of CoreSHIELD™, pin 1 to the outside.
  • You may now power up and boot the examination computer. The write protected drive is now available for examination, forensic acquisition or imaging.

The protected drive will be seen and recognized by the host computer as a CoreSHIELD™ device and can be accessed normally with file utilities or other viewing or imaging software.
